The first crafty thrift store find of the year.

Standard

image

A martha stewart knit and weave loom kit.  It was missing the crochet hook and yarn needles.  But it’s not like I don’t  have both running around the house.

I used the kit to make a simple loom to weave a trivet before running errands today.

Here it is finished.

November.

Harvest is nearly complete, the wood stove is creating heat, it’s beginning to look like winter (in our area that means mud), deer season in much of the state is over, and I’m already listening to Christmas music.   I’m preparing for a small Christmas show, the only one this year.  Bogus basin had snow over the weekend.

Ahh, the crafting months.

This is my first ice dyed shirt.  I love how the stenciled design turned out.  A good start to the season.

Here’s a new post set to keep me posting at least once a week.  I will re cap all the cool items I made during the week.   (yes I know it’s Thursday.  I won’t have any time tomorrow to post.)

image

We’ll start with this lovely ruffle scarf.  Sequins and metallic thread make this one sparkle.  Finished it today.

Another cable hat.

image

A basket weave hat.  This one is getting dyed blue or purple.   I don’t care for the white.

image

Infiniti scarf.   I don’t have much to say about this one, I think I’ll wear it but it’s still to hot to get excited about it.

image

This queens Anne lace scarf needs blocked badly.   But the colors are so me.

image

The first shirt I discharged.   I still haven’t worn it,  I think tomorrow is the day.  I must make more of these.

image

I’ve worn this one and gotten some interested looks but no comments.

image

My niece snapped this up as soon as she saw it.  She’s the only one I know that can’t stand having something that everyone else has.

image

Another one for my niece she was not as excited bu this one but wanted it as well.

Discharge pen shirts.   These I’m not as excited about as the blue shirt.  I do think these are pretty awesome.   My boyfriend said that this is the way to get a name out there vs dyeing.  Do something different.   These are hand done so non of them will be the same.
Have a colorful and bright day.

New design!!!

Standard

Wahoo, I just designed a new pattern I cannot get it tested til a later date.  But it is a very fun and quick stash busting pattern.  I may have to make several pairs of these up to have as on hand gifts this year.  This pattern came about  because I didn’t find a pattern for fingerless gloves I liked for Xmas presents.  There are 2 people on my list getting these.  They are just so great, fast and easy.  I also think they’d look great in stripes!

I know it’s a horrible picture.  But it’s going to have to suffice.  I love this yarn.  I don’t know what it is but I love it.         May the colors always be bright, and have a good night.

The year is flying by….

Standard

I hoped to  post daily this year, but alas my life was just as crazy as last year.  Hopefully It will be a little slower for the rest of the year.  It will be full of color and ideas.  Yesterday I found 2 water bath Bottlers for canning at a yard sale for a reasonable price, some vintage yarn, Crochet thread, vintage lighters, a really cool vintage scale and some vintage jars.  Hopefully all will be used in upcoming posts.    The colours are calling.

2013 a new year, new crafts and a new outlook on color.

Standard

As many of you know I love color with this last year over I am back on my article writing drive, hopefully I will not get as busy as I was last year, we bought a house and moved.  the entire 9 month ordeal is almost over.  I have to say I am glad to be out in the country again.  I missed being able to have a garden, animals and the like.  So hopefully more dyeing is in my future!  There are so many sun dyeing methods I cannot wait to try.  Also I will keep you more updated on how my etsy shop is doing.  thank you,  The colors are calling me away.

Flowers Out of Stripping Sock Yarn

Standard

FlowersThese were made to be used for brooches, Using self stripping Sock yarn,  it makes the best flowers.   These are really good, for putting on hats or hair pins as well I used the pattern here   at cut out and keep, another great pattern with pictures.  The colors are Calling me Again, until next time.

Colorful Fiber Necklaces

Standard

This lovely necklace is a great way to add plenty of color to any outfit, any time of year.

I love wearing these,  my sister has some as well, we get more comments on these then if we are wearing new jewelry.  These do not take a lot of yarn to make a simple one. The one pictured above was done as a prize for a friends raffle, and got rave reviews.  It was made up of entirely specialty/novelty yarn. Which as we all know is not inexpensive, but even if you have just scrap lengths of complementary colors it makes a really cute fiber necklace.

ImageThe one pictured above is available here I do love wearing these as I have said.  They also are simple to make, any crocheter or knitter can do it. All you need is a crochet needle, yarn of your choosing, and a yarn needle.

chain as many to meet your length requirement,  I like mine long enough to loop around my neck once and still have some drape.

Join the first chain together with a slip stitch.  tie off.

repeat with the next yarn until you have enough chains to make your necklace.  I use from 4 to 20 depending on the bulk and color of my yarn.

With a yarn needle lace the chains together tie off. Weave in ends.

Now here is the fun part you can leave it like that or choose a yarn to wrap around or crochet around the laced together strand.

I know my explanation is quite plain, and extremely bland but my this pattern is very basic and easy so please feel free to use it and have fun if you find a way to make it better please let me know!  And Once again the colors are calling.

The Many Colors of Wash Cloths!

Standard
many cloths

Vintage yarn dish cloths, made with 100% cotton that was made in the usa. many colors.

So I spent the last few days working on this, starting with looting my yarn stash!  Nothings better then digging threw your yarn and finding exactly what your looking for.  In my case it was vintage cotton yarn to make wash/dish cloths with a pattern  i found at cut out and keep,                        http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/dish-rags.   I have been asked by several friends for wash cloths and decided to find a quick pattern, that could be easily customized with different trims.  You will notice the brown with aquamarine, the green with yellow, the brown with cream, and the green with cream and purple.  I love using several colors for washcloths so even bath time or doing dishes is fun! These make a great Christmas or everyday gifts.  I fold them into thirds, then fold in half and tie with  a cute little bow!  This basket I might add was purchased for fifty cents at a local thrift store. The plain basket makes the colors pop even more.  I will post even more about wash cloths as I go and review the many free patterns on the web.  The pattern I have linked in this post is very simple and easy to follow.  I did not find a problem with this pattern.  Once again the colors are calling me!
